Lindsay Lohan may be serving a mandatory 90 days in rehab, but the actress insists that she's not a heavy user of either alcohol or illegal drugs.
In an interview with Piers Morgan for the U.K.'s Daily Mail ahead of her latest stint in rehab, Lohan says she's "never been a huge drinker" and has done cocaine only a handful of times in her life, while staying firmly away from other hard drugs like heroin and LSD. She readily admits to taking prescription Adderall and Trazodone.
Lohan, who says her life started to go "off the rails" when she moved from New York City to Los Angeles at age 20, says she tried alcohol for the first time at age 17 and didn't like it. "I got really sick and Mum made me sleep with vomit still on me so I'd understand how it felt," she tells Morgan. "I didn't drink again throughout high school."
The actress also opens up about her tumultuous childhood with her father Michael, whom she says also struggles with using alcohol and cocaine. "Whenever I do try to bring him back into my life, he creates chaos for me and uses it to his advantage," Lohan says. "He's been really good and then really crazy my whole life."
As for her stint in rehab (which was scheduled to begin a few weeks after this interview took place), Lohan says she views it less of a treatment for addiction and more as an opportunity for her to get her thoughts and emotions back in line.
"I don't think I need to be on lockdown for three months," she tells Morgan. "I don't think there's anything wrong with people taking time to just be by themselves. I think people want to see me do that. They will keep saying the same things about me if I don't. I don't think it will be a bad thing for me to be away with myself for three months."
Lohan also tells the CNN host she "lives without regrets" and believes "things happen for a reason." But rather than rehab, she thinks she would be better served by spending the time doing other things. "The best thing they could do for me would be to make me go abroad to different countries and work with children," she tells Morgan.
Lohan arrived at the rehab facility as scheduled last week, but left after a few minutes and is in violation of her probation as a result. She subsequently checked into the Betty Ford Center, according to reports.
