Lindsay Lohan's Community Service Under Investigation by Prosecutor

Lindsay Lohan is close to finishing her final community service sentence but a new investigation has put that into question, the Associated Press reports.

An investigation is officially underway following a complaint from Santa Monica Chief Deputy City Attorney Terry White, who expressed disbelief that Lohan had completed 80 hours of community service in nine days. White said that if he is able to show that Lohan didn't complete the hours as stated in court filings, he would seek jail time for the actress.

Part of White's reasoning was that Lohan was receiving treatment last month for Chikungunya, a rare, untreatable virus that is spread through mosquitos. However, her attorney Shawn Holley countered that her client was receiving outpatient treatment and "powered through it."

Lohan, 28, was sentenced to 240 hours of community service following a 2012 charge for reckless driving. She did a portion of her community service in London, as approved by a judge, because she was appearing on the West End in a production of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow.

Part of the issue with Lohan's community service was that she received credit for doing meet-and-greets with fans after various performances. "She got to shake hands with people, and that's community service," White said. He also complained about Lohan receiving credit for hours in which young people were shadowing her. "I'd love to hang out with a celebrity all day and see their life, but that's not community service."

White has until Feb. 18 to verify Lohan's hours.
