Despite what some may have you believe, you're never too old for Lethal Weapon.

This fall, Fox will introduce the insane antics of cops Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford, Rectify) and Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans, Sr.) to a new generation when the network's smokin' hot adaptation of the hit film franchise premieres Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8/7c.

Of course, it takes a lot to fill the shoes of one of popular culture's most beloved buddy cop pairings.

Fans' first glimpse of Murtaugh will find the character, originated by Danny Glover in the films, having just celebrated his 50th birthday. "He's got two teenage kids [and] six months ago his wife gave birth to a surprise third child. He had a heart attack in the delivery room and it's his first day going back to work," explains executive producer Matt Miller in the exclusive video above.

"He cheated death, and he got another chance at life. It told him, 'You gotta slow down,'" adds Wayans.

Meanwhile, Riggs will be working through some dark times of his own.

"He loses his wife and unborn child in a fatal accident," says Crawford, who steps into the role first played by Mel Gibson. "It kind of flips his world upside down. I think he starts to climb out of that hole somewhat by distracting himself with the only thing he knows and understands, which is catching bad guys."

Watch the sneak peek above to learn more about Riggs, Murtaugh and the rest of the show's cast, which includes Keesha Sharp, Jordana Brewster and Kevin Rahm.

Lethal Weapon premieres Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8/7c on Fox.
