Lea Michele had no shortage of supporters after Cory Monteith, her Glee co-star and real-life boyfriend, died earlier this year. Among them was actress Kate Hudson.

Michele, 27, says Hudson, who previously guest-starred on Glee, was one of the first people she reached out to in the wake of Monteith's death in July from a fatal combination of heroin and alcohol. Hudson immediately offered her a place to stay, Michele tells Elle magazine, according to Us Weekly.

Glee says goodbye to Finn Hudson

"I called her and said, I don't know where I'm going to go because my house is swarmed [with reporters]," Michele tells Elle in a new interview. "She was like, 'Oh, you're going to stay at my house.' Like it was nothing."

Adds Michele: "I'll never really be able to thank her, truly, for what she did for me."

Cory Monteith's 10 most memorable Glee performances

Glee dealt with Monteith's death — and that of his character, Finn Hudson — in a recent episode and is now on hiatus. But Michele says her personal loss is something she continues to struggle with.

"It's very hard and you have to be very strong to come out of this alive, but I think by doing the best for myself, by showing that you don't have to lose yourself, maybe someone else will feel some sort of strength or comfort," she tells Elle. "I know that Cory would want nothing more than for me to take this situation and use it to help people. I don't know if I will. I don't know how."

Michele's full interview is featured in the December issue of ElleGlee returns with new episodes on Thursday, Nov. 7 on Fox.
