Lauryn Hill's Sentencing Delayed for Two Weeks

Lauryn Hill's tax evasion sentencing was delayed for two weeks on Monday so she can pay a restitution fee, The Associated Press reports.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo postponed the sentencing until May 6 and criticized Hill for failing to make the payment by Monday's hearing as promised. The singer has only paid $50,000 of $554,000.
To help her pay off her debt, Hill's attorney, Nathan Hochman, said that the former Fugees singer has recently signed a $1 million record contract with Sony and will take out a $650,000 loan.

Hill, who owes $968,000 in back taxes, previously said that she didn't file her tax returns from 2005 to 2007 to protect her family from threats she was receiving at the time. She pleaded guilty last June and currently faces the maximum of one year for each count of tax evasion, but her attorney is hoping for probation.
