Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi was released from jail after pleading not guilty to charges following his arrest at the 95th annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition, The Associated Press reports.
Kobayashi faced charges of obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct.
The competitive eater had jumped on stage Sunday after archrival Joey "Jaws" Chestnut snagged his fourth straight Fourth of July victory by downing 54 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Kobayashi, who wore a "Free Kobi" shirt, did not compete because of contractual issues with Major League Eating.
Police tried to escort him off the stage, but Kobayashi grabbed onto the metal police barricade by the stairs. Officers eventually pulled Kobayashi away and got him down the stairs, where they arrested him.
