Kit Harington Says Game of Thrones Season 8 Gave Him 'Peace' About Jon Snow

Kit Harington may be hot on theGame of Thrones promotional trail right now, but he's still leaving everyone out in the cold about what's ahead for the show's eighth and final season. Even as Stephen Colbert hilariously plied him with finale predictions, Harington managed to keep the chat stoic and completely spoiler-free (yawn).

So it's no surprise that even in his cover feature for Variety, the actor didn't divulge many new details about where the show is heading next or how it will end -- but Harington did say that thanks to whatever happens in the final season, he's finally at "peace" with Jon Snow's role in the epic Thrones narrative.

Speaking to the magazine, Harington admitted to struggling with the hooplah surrounding Jon Snow in the past. He said he'd been bothered by early press that called his character "boring," but he also confessed that when the entire plot of the series converged on his character -- like, for example, at the tail end of Season 5, when Jon Snow was betrayed by his brothers in the Night's Watch -- Harington had a rough time acclimating to all of the attention.

"My darkest period was when the show seemed to become so much about Jon, when he died and came back. I really didn't like the focus of the whole show coming onto Jon -- even though it was invalidating my problem about being the weak link because things were about Jon," he told Variety.

Harington's appreciation for his character's place in the story has since improved, as have his own insecurities about his performance. The actor said he can now look back and say to himself, "Well, I was a f--ing integral part of that whole thing. Jon was, and I am, and I'm proud of it. It took me a long time to not think, I'm the worst thing in this."

Harington still estimates that he'll "never be happy" with about 70 percent of his scenes, but he said that final season did help him finally understand and appreciate his importance to the show. "I know who this is now, and I'm at peace with who this is," he said of his character. "I just got a feeling that it's the most satisfied I will be with my work as Jon Snow."

Fans will have to wait and see how Jon Snow's story ends when Game of Thrones returns to HBO for a final season on Sunday, April 14 at 9/8c.
