Dallas Star Ken Kercheval Dead at 83

He played the role of Cliff Barnes for 14 seasons

Ken Kercheval, who played Cliff Barnes on Dallas for 14 seasons and recently reprised his role for the 2012 revival, has died according to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 83.

Kercheval was born in Clinton, Indiana, and married three times, leaving behind five children and six grandchildren. In 1994, he successfully battled lung cancer and afterwards spoke out about the danger of smoking and receiving regular checkups to People. He passed away Sunday, April 21, with a funeral service held in his hometown.

Kercheval was known for his work on television, screen, and stage. With almost a hundred different credits to his name, he was best known for his role as Cliff on the long running soap. He also appeared in episodes of Starsky and Hutch, Diagnosis Murder, and The Love Boat, and starred in the original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof and Cabaret. As for movies, he appeared in such project like Network and The Seven-Ups.

As for his time on Dallas, Kercheval was one of only two cast members (the other being Larry Hagman's J.R. Ewing) to appear in every single episode during the series run from 1978 to 1991. Kercheval appeared again on TNT's Dallas series, where Cliff was up to his old schemes with Ewing Oil and the overall Ewing family.
