Lucy Hale is returning to The CW and this time with a Riverdaleconnection. The Life Sentencestar is now headlining the Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene, TV Guide has learned.

Hale will play the titular character in the spin-off about four Archie comics characters trying to make it in the big city. Katy has high hopes of being a fashion designer, but in the meantime is a personal shopper at a fancy department store while basically trying to live her best Carrie Bradshaw inspired New York City life.

The actress joins Ashleigh Murray --who will depart Riverdale this season to play an older Josie McCoy --, Camille Hyde, Lucien Laviscount, Jonny Beauchamp and Julia Chan in the pilot, which is being written by Riverdale boss Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi. They will both executive produce the series alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, Archie Comics' John Goldwater and Maggie Kelly, who will also direct the first episode.

This is the second time Hale has taken on a lead role at The CW. She also headlined last year's Life Sentence, which was canceled after one season. Before that, Hale made her debut as Aria Montgomery on Pretty Little Liars. The CW will officially decide whether Katy Keene will make its TV lineup in May.
