KATHIE LEE BANNED FROM REGIS

Kathie Lee Gifford, who is currently pushing her new CD, Heart of a Woman, has been forbidden from appearing or running commercial spots on the newly christened Live with Regis. "We need to gain some physical and commercial separation from Kathie Lee during the search for her replacement," says Tom Kane, president of New York's WABC-TV, which produces the show. "We can all see a day when she'll appear on the show again as a guest and when her commercial endeavors are promoted during the show, but only after we've been able to reestablish ourselves with a new co-host." The Kathie Lee ban comes a week after Gifford appeared on NBC's Today — in direct competition with her former show. When asked by Matt Lauer if she had any plans to drop into Live to promote her CD, she replied, "I'd love to, but I think they got a little angry when we booked the Today show so soon."
