Comedy Central Roasts are designed to get laughs, but Justin Bieber took a serious tone at the taping of his roast on Saturday, apologizing to those in attendance at the end of the event for some of his past actions.

Justin Bieber: A timeline of bad behavior

"I've turned a lot of people off in the last few years," Bieber admitted, according to USA Today, in what may be the understatement of the year. "There was really no preparing me for this life. I was thrown into this at 12 years old. I didn't know what I was getting myself into. There were moments I am proud of. And there are moments I am disappointed with myself for. But the things I have done, don't define who I am. I am kind-hearted person who loves people. And through it all, I have lost some of my best qualities. For that, I'm sorry."

Bieber addressed his apology at a press conference after the event.

"I felt like this was a moment for me to really show people where I'm in my life right now," he said, as reported by Access Hollywood. "I'm at a moment of change. ... This is a new day and we're turning a new leaf here."

At the roast, which will air March 30 on Comedy Central, celebrities including Kevin Hart, Snoop Dogg and Will Ferrell (in character as Anchorman Ron Burgundy) all took verbal punches at Bieber.
