Two Men Convicted of Plotting to Rob and Murder Joss Stone

Two men were convicted by a British jury Wednesday of planning to rob and murder soul singer Joss Stone, The Associated Press reports.

Kevin Liverpool, 35, and Junior Bradshaw, 32, were found guilty on charges of conspiracy to murder, to cause grievous bodily harm and to rob. Both men had denied the allegations.

Liverpool was given a life sentence and must serve a minimum of 10 years and eight months. Bradshaw is set to be sentenced at a later date. "You intended to rob her and kill her and dump her body in the river, according to your words, and then leave the country with your accomplice Junior Bradshaw," Judge Francis Gilbert said when he sentenced Liverpool.

Liverpool and Bradshaw were arrested in June 2011 near Stone's Devon home after suspicious neighbors reported them to the authorities. They were taken in before they were able to reach her house.

Prosecutors said the pair were headed towards Stone's home armed with a samurai sword, knives, a hammer, black bags and gloves. After their arrests, handwritten notes were found in their car detailed their intent to "decapitate" the singer. Another note read, "Jocelyn RIP" and a third note read, "Once Jocelyn's dead ... find a river to dump her."

After the trial, Stone, 37, said she was thankful for the support she had received during the trying time. "I am relieved the trial is now over and that these men are no longer in a position to cause harm to anyone," she said in a statement.
