Joseph Morgan is leaving the vampire life behind for his next big TV role. Morgan has booked the lead role in an untitled Fox pilot about two private detectives, TV Guide has confirmed.

Based on the best-selling novel Gone Baby Gone by Dennis Lehane -- which itself was the inspiration for the 2007 film starring Casey Affleck -- this series tells the story of two private detectives, Patrick Kenzie (Morgan) and Angela Gennaro. Based out of Boston, these P.I.'s use their wits and street smarts to right wrongs within the working class of the borough of Dorchester. The role of Angela, Patrick's partner and love interest, has not yet been cast.

Morgan has spent the last seven years playing the enigmatic (and often unhinged) Original hybrid Klaus Mikaelson, first on The CW's The Vampire Diariesand then on the spin-off The Originals. He was rumored to have been cast in Fox's The Giftedlast year after being spotted at a table read for the new series, but those rumors were dispelled when The Originals was picked up for a fifth and final season.
