John Singleton to Direct Tupac Shakur Biopic After All

John Singleton is back as director for the untitled Tupac Shakur biopic, Variety reports. Singleton was previously linked to the project, but when the deal fell through two years ago the film's development stalled.

John Singleton is back as director for the untitled Tupac Shakur biopic, Variety reports.

Singleton was previously linked to the project, but when the deal fell through two years ago the film's development stalled.

The Boyz N the Hood writer is set to rewrite, direct and produce the film about the legendary rapper's rise to fame and his murder following a boxing match in 1996.

"Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films," Singleton said. "His passing deeply affected my life as well as countless people in this world. His life story is as important to my generation."

Singleton will now begin rewriting the script and searching for the right actor to play Shakur. He hopes production can begin as early as June.

James G. RobinsonDavid Robinson and L.T. Hutton will also produce the biopic.
