John Legend Just Got One Major Step Closer to an EGOT

John Legend is already living his best life, and on Thursday it got even better.

The beloved singer scored his first Emmy nomination for his starring role as Jesus Christ in NBC's live production of Jesus Christ Superstar. As if that wasn't enough reason to celebrate on its own, if Legend wins the statuette during the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards this fall, he will officially joint he prestigious EGOT club!

When someone EGOTs, it means they've won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. So far, only twelve people have earned the honor, including Rita Moreno, Mel Brooks and Whoopi Goldberg.

Legend won his Oscar in 2015 for "Glory," a song he co-wrote and performed with Common for Ava DuVernay's Selma. (Legend also has a Golden Globe for "Glory," but that doesn't mean anything in the EGOT world.) The "All of Me" singer already has 10 Grammys, including Best New Artist from 2006, and he got his Tony last year, for co-producing a revival of the August Wilson play Jitney.

In addition to bringing Legend one step closer to making history, his Emmy nomination also marks his first nod for acting.

Legend's wife Chrissy Teigen tweeted her excitement at his nomination, although she noted that his potential Emmy would leave no room for her to proudly display her Spike TV Award, but he promises that won't happen.

Legend has some tough competition in the way of his potential EGOT, though. Also competing in the Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category are Antonio Banderas (Genius: Picasso), Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story), Benedict Cumberbatch (Patrick Melrose), Jeff Daniels (The Looming Tower) and Jesse Plemons (Black Mirror's "USS Callister"). But you'll have to tune in to the Emmys to find out who takes home the statuette and whether or not Legend will find his place in the record books.

The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Monday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC.
