Watch Jimmy Kimmel and Other Hosts Give Heartfelt Tributes to David Letterman

David Letterman will take his final bow on The Late ShowWednesdaynight (11:35/10:35c, CBS), and his late-night colleagues have spent the past week paying tribute to him. Take a look at their heartfelt thanks to the former Late Night host.

Jimmy Kimmel not only promised that he wouldn't air a new episode the night of Letterman's last show, but he also penned a letter in TIME to honor the host and used Tuesday's monologue to describe how he grew up obsessed with Letterman's show. "Watching Late Night, not only did I learn how to do everything from Dave, the reason I have this show is because the executives at ABC saw me when I was a guest on Dave's show and hired me," he said, ending with a tearful wish for viewers to instead watch Letterman's last show on Wednesday night.

The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon thanked Letterman on his Monday night show, calling his career "33 years of innovation, fun, and just plain weirdness...but mostly fun." He also shared a photo from his 8th grade yearbook, where one of his teachers predicted that "James Fallon will replace David Letterman on the Late Night show."

With The Daily Show on a break the week Letterman's Late Show run ends, Jon Stewart made sure to get his remarks in early. "I just wanted to say what a remarkable honor it has been for me to have gone on his show," he said of the "young man," Letterman. "To be an innovator with longevity is I mean, damn, the list is I think Dave. I think the list is Dave."

Rather than taking on a monologue, the current Late Nighthost Seth Meyers paid homage to Letterman by recreating the host's first Late Night opening shot for shot, right down to the upbeat music and voiceover. Don't forget, Letterman's replacement Stephen Colbert paid his own tribute a year ago. "This man has influenced every host who came after him, and even a few who came before him he's that good. And I gotta tell you I do not envy whoever they try to put in that chair!"
