This Adorable Jeopardy! Proposal Is Like a Daily Double for Your Heart

She said "What is yes?"

It's been a big couple of weeks for televised marriage proposals. There was the guy at the Emmys, then Swaggy C and Bayleigh on Big Brother, and now there's Jeopardy! contestant Michael Pascuzzi and his fiancée Maria Shafer.

"Normally when I interview the contestants, I base my conversation on little bits of information they have supplied us," host Alex Trebek said. "But with regard to Michael Pascuzzi, from Orlando, Florida, I have absolutely nothing on the card." So Trebek invited Pascuzzi to talk about whatever it was he wanted to talk about.

Pascuzzi then turned to Shafer -- who seemed to know what was coming, because she was already crying when the camera cut to her -- and asked if she would make him a "winner" and marry him.

"Yes, of course!" she said, which prompted Trebek to say, "Maria, you responded too quickly! I was about to say we'll have the answer to that question right after this commercial break!"

And then she came back with an even better Jeopardy! joke: "What is 'Yes?'"

Pascuzzi didn't win -- he came in second, behind returning champion Evelyn Rubin -- but he said it himself, he's still a winner.

As far as I know, this is the first proposal on Jeopardy!, but in 2005 a couple named Dara Hellman and Daniel Melia, the latter of whom was a Jeopardy! contestant, were married on the set of the game show.
