Jennifer Lopez Will Be a Judge on NBC's New Show World of Dance

If American Idol comes back, chances are it will be without Jennifer Lopez, as the singer/actress has signed on to be a judge on World of Dance, a forthcoming NBC competition show she'll also executive-produce.

On World of Dance, dancers will compete across a variety of dance genres for the chance to win a grand prize of $1 million. There will be three competition tiers: junior (any-sized groups of dancers under 16), upper (solo dancers or groups of two to four people over 16) and team (groups of five or more people over age 16). After audition rounds, each division will face off until a winner from each is determined. Then, in the finale, the final three will compete for the grand prize and the title of "Best in the World."

Other judges -- as well as a premiere date -- for the 10-episode first season will be announced at a later date.

"I identify with the struggles, passion, discipline, competition and exhilaration of dance," Lopez said in a statement. "I am excited that with this show we can skyrocket a dancer's career and help guide them to success."

Lopez, who was a judge on American Idol for the singing competition's final three seasons, started her multi-hyphenate career as a dancer on In Living Color. She currently stars on the NBC cop drama Shades of Blue.

World of Dance is the second dance competition series in the works at NBC. The network has also given a six-episode order to an as-yet-untitled series from husband-and-wife dancer/actors Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum.
