Jennifer Lopez will headline NBC's live production of Bye Bye Birdie.

The former American Idol judge will star as Rosie, the role originated by Tony nominee Chita Rivera, TVLine reports.

Bye Bye Birdie tells the story of a 1950s pop singer Conrad Birdie as he prepares to leave for military duty. But before he ships out, Rosie -- who is the girlfriend of Birdie's manager Albert -- comes up with the idea to hold a contest to give one fan a kiss from Birdie.

The musical was adapted into a 1963 film which stared Janet Leigh as Rosie, Dick Van Dyke as Albert and Anne-Margret as the lucky contest winner.

Bye Bye Birdie Live! will air in the 2017 holiday season. This year, the network will air Hairspray Live! on Dec. 7, starring Jennifer Hudson, Derek Hough and Ariana Grande.

The musical also mark Lopez's third recent collaboration with NBC. She currently stars in the police drama Shades of Blue, which will return midseason, and will judge the upcoming dance competition World of Dance.
