Christmas came right on time for fans of Doctor Who's companion Clara. Afterweeks of speculation about the future of the newest Doctor's comely assistant, actress Jenna Coleman on Christmas Day confirmed that she will be returning to the long-running sci-fi series.

During the close of Thursday's Doctor Who holiday special Last Christmas on Thursday, Coleman told the BBC that it was "wonderful" that she would be returning for another season, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

"I get a whole other series of stories with the Doctor, and I couldn't walk away with the story being unresolved... I think [Clara and the Doctor] finally just reached a point where they really understand each other."

She added, "The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up."

And the Doctor approves. Peter Capaldi, fresh off his debut season as the 12th Doctor, said, "I'm thrilled. Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with."

After early reports stated that Coleman was leaving the series, tabloids got the drop on Coleman's return in late November, citing a change of heart for the actress. The BBC jumped on the mystery, telling viewers that they'd have to watch Last Christmas in order to find out her fate. Coleman's decision to stay allegedly sent Doctor Who writers into a scramble as they had to rewrite scripts.
