Where are the Misfits?

At long last, the first trailer for the movie adaptation of the 1980s cartoon Jem and the Holograms is out! But now that it's out, longtime fans of the show are wishing it would go back into oblivion.

Fall TV preview: 2015-2016 new shows

The Internet is dog-piling on the future Universal Pictures release, complaining that it lost the spirit of the series they loved as young 'uns. Among the many gripes from viewers who watched the two-and-a-half minute trailer are the rote and tired story of a young band member wanting to go solo, the dominance of social media, poor costuming, and-truly, truly outrageously unacceptable-a total lack of the Holograms' rival The Misfits.

Aubrey Peeples (Nashville's Layla Grant) stars as Jerrica/Jem, with Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, and Aurora Perrineau filling out the rest of the Holograms. Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald also star, and Step Up 3D director Jon M. Chu is behind the camera.

Is it really that bad? Watch the trailer and judge for yourself.
