Jeffrey Dean Morgan is joining the cast of Halle Berry's summer sci-fi series Extantfor Season 2, CBS announced Thursday.
The Grey's Anatomy and Supernatural alum will play JD Richter, who is described as a "roguish womanizer and a cop of the future" who is a mercenary and a bounty hunter. A big drinker, JD is fearless because he has nothing to lose. He thinks he's seen it all, that is until he meets Molly Woods (Berry).

Extant, about a female astronaut who learns that she has unknowingly put the human race on a path to destruction, first premiered last summer on CBS. Morgan's casting comes following the exit of several series regulars including Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O'Neill. Additionally, Goran Visnjic, who plays Molly's husband, and Camryn Manheim are slated to return in recurring capacities.
Morgan's other TV credits include Magic City, Weeds and the upcoming History Channel miniseries Texas Rising.
