Jane the Virgin's Jaime Camil Takes Us Inside Britney Spears' Epic Episode

It's Britney vs. Rogelio in the feud of the year

Britney Spears is checking in to the Marbella on Monday'sJane the Virgin. But while we're ecstatic to see what the pop icon does on the beloved CW telenovela, there's one person who isn't so thrilled by Britney's appearance. As Rogelio (Jaime Camil) reveals, the Passions of Santos star and the singer have a long-standing feud and he's determined to confront her about it. And given Rogelio's history, we're sure he'll do it in a calm, respectful manner. (Jokes.)

But why does Rogelio take such a blasphemous stance against Godney? Check out everything Camil revealed about the anticipated episode below:

What was your reaction when you found out Britney was going to do an episode of Jane?
Jaime Camil:
We were so excited. And thank god we're blessed with brilliant writers and an amazing showrunner, so you know the episode is going to be good, right? That's a guarantee. I believe it came because seven months ago, Britney did an interview for People magazine or something like that and when they asked her, "What are you watching on television?" she answered Jane the Virgin. So of course that was super exciting for us. So I believe the producers felt confident of calling her team and inviting her to the show, and she said yes!

What brings Britney to the Marbella?
Camil:
Did you see last [week's] episode? Do you know how Milos proposed to Petra (Yael Grobglas) at the end of the episode? But instead of "Will you marry me?" it was "You will marry me." So I believe Milos, because he's very rich ... hired Britney for the wedding.

Rogelio thinks of Britney as his nemesis. What's behind that feud?
Camil:
We don't want to give away spoilers ... but when Rogelio finds out Britney's checking in at the Marbella, he goes and confronts her in a very, very funny scene. Very dramatic, Rogelio-style. You know how he is sometimes. Or most of the time, I should say. So he goes and confronts her and that doesn't go well. They put a restraining order on him. Rogelio can't go near the hotel.

Jane the Virgin: Who Jane chooses comes with its own complications

This sounds amazing.
Camil:
Oh, my God. Wait until you see the confrontation scene. She is very funny. The comedic timing is brilliant. We were really surprised to meet Britney Spears. Not surprised because we doubted, let me be clear about this. Just surprised because it was super amazing and overwhelming to see how professional she is. Always on time, never waiting for her, always willing to explore what's best for the show acting-wise and tone-wise. She was a sweetheart and beautiful person to work with. It was amazing and her comedic timing was great. When Rogelio goes like, "Britney, Britney Spears! Stop!" And she goes like, "Ra? Ru? Ra-ra?" And Rogelio's like, "Why would you pretend that you forgot my name?" It becomes a very funny scene and she's brilliant in it.

Rogelio might be upset about Britney's arrival, but how does everyone else react?
Camil:
Everybody's super excited. Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is like, "Oh, my God!" ... And I'm like, "Oh, she's checking in? Oh, good. Finally she'll have to face me." And Xiomara's (Andrea Navedo) like, "What are you talking about? Are you serious?" And Rogelio's like, "Of course, I am." And Xiomara's like, "Well, you've never mentioned her and you name-drop Gloria Estefan and all of them." And he's like, "No, no, no. I don't name-drop. I happen to mention people like Gloria Estefan and Oprah Winfrey because they're dear friends of mine." But everybody's super excited, of course. Imagine Britney Spears, for the love of God. She's one of the most iconic pop stars in the world. But even more than that, she's just a very sweet girl, very professional and a very good actress, to be honest.

There's going to be a little music in the episode. How will that be incorporated?
Camil:
Have you seen the picture that was released of Britney and Gina dancing? I think that what happens is when Jane meets Britney, she imagines that Britney goes, "Oh, hi Jane. You look like you have some rhythm. Would you like to dance?" And then they do a mini musical number. Then, of course, Jane wakes up to reality and Britney just does a quick hello and keeps on walking. So the musical number is only in Jane's mind.

In last week's episode, we also found out Rogelio has a big secret. Any hints as to what's on Disc 142 Part C?
Camil:
To be honest, I don't know. I think we have shot through Episode 7 and the writers haven't brought this subject up. So I don't know what's on the disc.

Are you worried that whatever Rogelio's secret is, it will have an adverse effect on his relationship with Xo?
Camil:
I'm going to have to be super confident. ... Whatever the writers throw at me, I'm going to make it work and I'm sure it's going to be beyond amazing. So let's see what surprise the writers throw at me.

Watch Britney Speras hilariously prank these wannabe bodyguards

Rogelio has always been very much Team Michael (Brett Dier). Will we see that waver at all this season?
Camil:
There was a moment in either the Britney episode or the following, when Rogelio will probably change his team to Team Rafael (Justin Baldoni). I don't remember exactly quite why I got the feeling. But we were at the table read and I looked at Justin like, "Oh, my God. I think Rogelio's going to be Team Rafael, man!" And we high-fived and everything. And Brett was like, "Hey guys. I'm here. I can see you. Thank you." But I don't remember the exact moment, but Rogelio might change to Team Rafael in following episodes.

Right after Jane tells Xo that she picks Michael, Rogelio has to go and change his mind.
Camil:
Rogelio always has to make things complicated, are you kidding? My character lives for that. But to me, as a dad, I can tell you now for a fact that I will never approve any guy who will be dating my daughter in the future. So I'm sure Rogelio is secretly Team Michael because Michael is not in the picture. But when Michael gets in the picture, he might run for the other one because he doesn't want his daughter to date anyone.
