James Franco Calls New York Times Theater Critic a "Little Bi---"

Perhaps James Franco should consider deleting his Instagram account. Franco found himself in hot social media water (again) Thursday after referring to New York Times theater critic Ben Brantley as "a little bi---" via the photo-sharing platform. It seems Franco, who's currently starring in Of Mice and Men on Broadway, didn't take kindly to Brantley's less-than-glowing review of the play.

After linking to a (more positive) review of the play that was published in Variety, Franco added: "SADLY BEN BRANTLEY AND THE NYT HAVE EMBARASSED (sic) THEMSELVES. BRANTLEY IS SUCH A LITTLE BI--- HE SHOULD BE WORKING FOR GAWKER.COM INSTEAD OF THE PAPER OF RECORD. THE THEATRE COMMUNITY HATES HIM."

The Instagram post has since been deleted, but there's a screengrab of it here.

Brantley has been the Chief Theater Critic for the Times since 1996. In his review of Of Mice and Men, he describes Franco's performance as "often understated to the point of near invisibility."

Earlier this month, Franco said he was "embarrassed" after his attempts to solicit a 17-year-old via Instagram went public. His explanation? "Social media is tricky."
