Case Over Golden Globes Rights Going to Trial

A federal judge has ruled that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's lawsuit against Dick Clark Productions over broadcast rights for the Golden Globe Awards can proceed, The Associated Press reports.

U.S. District Judge Valerie Baker Fairbank denied a bid by DCP Monday to dismiss the case. The trial will begin Sept. 6 in Los Angeles."We will continue the fight to reclaim all of our rights," HFPA President Philip Berk said in a statement.

The HFPA, which owns the Golden Globes, sued DCP in November, claiming that the production company — a partner on Globes telecasts for nearly 20 years — secretly renegotiated broadcast rights with NBC through 2018 without consulting the HFPA.The HFPA and DCP's contract expired after January's ceremony.DCP declined to comment until the final ruling, but previously said "the case has no merit."
