The Streaming Wars are officially upon us, and by now you've probably heard a lot about HBO Max, the new streaming service from WarnerMedia that will combine titles from across the Warner Bros. film and TV library with original films and TV shows when it debuts. What you didn't know, until now, was when the service would launch or how much it would cost subscribers. Well, now we know.

WarnerMedia announced Tuesday that the new service will launch in May 2020 and cost subscribers $14.99 per month. That is quite a bit more than what Disney+ ($6.99) and Apple TV+ ($4.99) are charging for their own ad-free subscription streaming services. It's also more than the standard Netflix plan, which sets subscribers back $12.99 per month. Current AT&T customers, including HBO subscribers and HBO Now subscribers, will have access at no extra charge.

Everything We Know About HBO Max, WarnerMedia's New Streaming Service

WarnerMedia is hoping its extensive library content will offset the shock of HBO Max's costly price tag and be enough to entice people whose money will likely already be tied up elsewhere by the time it launches next year. Said content library will feature titles from across Warners' properties, including HBO, Cinemax, New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, TruTV, Turner Classic Movies, and Cartoon Network.

The service already has the exclusive streaming rights to all 10 seasons ofFriends, which leaves Netflix in the new year, as well as The West Wing, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Pretty Little Liars, Doctor Who(though not the classic series that aired from 1963-1989), and all 12 seasons ofThe Big Bang Theory. Those shows will be joined by South Park, Rick and Morty, all the DC Superhero movies, and even Joker.

Additionally, there is expected to be 50 original properties at launch. New projects coming to HBO Max in the future include Strange Adventures and a Green Lantern-inspired series, both from from Greg Berlanti, as well as Raised by Wolves, a serialized sci-fi series from Ridley Scott.

HBO Max launches in May 2020. Find out more about the new service here.
