Harrison Ford suffered multiple gashes to his head after a small plane he was piloting crash landed at a Los Angeles-area golf course Thursday, TMZ reports.

Ford was flying a vintage two-seater fighter when he crashed into Penmar Golf Course in Venice, Calif. According to local tower feed, Ford called engine failure before the crash landing. Although the Los Angeles Fire Department would not confirm Ford was the pilot, the LAFD chief said in a news conference that a 70-year-old man was in "fair to moderate" condition, and suffered injuries to his head. Paramedics found him outside of the plane when they arrived at the scene and he was transported to a nearby hospital. The LAPD also said that the victim, who was the only person on board, was alert and talking when paramedics reached him.

"Harrison was flying a WW2 vintage plane today which had engine trouble upon take off. He had no other choice but to make an emergency landing, which he did safely," Ford's rep said in a statement late Thursday. "He was banged up and is in the hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery."

Ford's son, Ben, also tweeted an update about his father's condition.

At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man.

Shortly after news of the crash, the Twitter account for the upcoming Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, tweeted out the following message:

Ford is a longtime aviator and has crashed several times in the past. Last year, Ford broke his leg on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens - an injury that forced production into a brief hiatus.
