Woody Harrelson will star opposite Julianne Moore and Ed Harris in HBO's Game Change, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Ed Harris to play John McCain in HBO's Game Change

Game Change, based on the book by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, will center on Senator John McCain (Harris) and his 2008 run for the White House, from his selection of Sarah Palin (Moore) as his running mate to losing to President Barack Obama. Harrelson, 49, will play Steve Schmidt, McCain's senior campaign strategist and adviser.

The film will re-team director Jay Roach and screenwriter Danny Strong, whose 2008 HBO film Recount  documented the chaos following the 2000 presidential race between Al Gore and George W. Bush and won three Emmys. Roach will also executive produce and Strong will co-executive produce.

Julianne Moore cast as Sarah Palin for HBO

Harrelson, a two-time Oscar nominee, recently starred in 2012and Zombieland.
