Amazon, Netflix Pass on Hannibal

Could it head elsewhere?

Hannibal may not live to see another season after all.

Amazon and Netflix have both declined to revive the artful drama, which NBC canceled last month partially into its third season. It's still possible the show will find a home elsewhere; however, Amazon Prime was seen as the most likely contender to bring Hannibal online because of an exclusive distribution deal.

Netflix passing on the drama isn't surprising due to the Amazon streaming deal. "I know that it can't go to Netflix because the Amazon streaming deal for Hannibal would preclude Netflix from being able to stream it in a way that would benefit them," creator Bryan Fuller told Vulture last month.

Fuller shared the disheartening news Monday via Twitter, adding that he's still holding out hope. De Laurentiis Company, which produces the show, confirmed that they were still exploring other options.

Fuller has previously stated that he already has Season 4 mapped out, and indicated that a fifth season would take Hannibal into Silence of the Lambs territory with the introduction of Clarice Starling.
