Grey's Anatomy's Sarah Drew Hasn't Ruled Out April's Return

Sarah Drew's bittersweet departure from Grey's Anatomysaw her character April finally receive the happy ending she deserved, but also squashed any hopes of her rekindling things with Jackson (Jesse Williams), her off-and-on love interest for years.

While April might be off living her happily ever after with Matthew (Justin Bruening), that doesn't mean it's the last we've seen of the fiery trauma surgeon. After all, she and Jackson still co-parent a child together and given that Jackson has already name-dropped April in Season 15, Grey's Anatomy is doing what they can to keep her memory alive even though she's not around. However, given the backstory behind April's departure -- Drew and co-star Jessica Capshaw, who played Arizona Robbins, were let go after Season 14 -- Drew doesn't seem too eager to return to Grey's Anatomy just yet. Although the star says she is keeping the door open for a return down the line.

"I'll never say never because they are my family. I still love everyone over there. I love that community and I still have such an incredible space in my heart for everyone over there," she told ET. "But I really do feel like, because of how it went down, I really had to part ways with April, I just had to. There was no way for me to live in a space of possibility of her returning and also be healthy in my letting go of all of it, so I really have said goodbye to her."

The show bid farewell to April in the Season 14 finale with an impromptu proposal that ended with her and Matthew tying the knot as Arizona, Sofia (Eva Ariel Binder) and Jackson looked on. It marked a full circle moment for April, who'd struggled with love and experienced something of a crisis of faith in Season 14. According to Drew, revisiting that character, who she played for nearly a decade, would be difficult but not impossible.

"I think saying hello again would be hard," she added. "But again, I'll never say never."

With Jackson experiencing his own crisis of faith, we may end up seeing April back on Grey's Anatomy sooner rather than later. You never know!
