Grey's Anatomy: Is Amelia Pregnant?

See what went down on Thursday's episode

On Thursday's Grey's Anatomy, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) spent much of the episode spreading the good news that she was pregnant. The only problem? She hadn't actually confirmed that she was, or told Owen (Kevin McKidd) her maybe-news.

It isn't clear whether the announcement would have been entirely welcomed by Owen, however; after Jackson (Jesse Williams) tasks him with babysitting a shrieking Harriet, Owen initially has a crisis of confidence about whether he might not be so good with kids after all. But once Harriet finally calmed down, Owen makes a picture-perfect version of a dad with the baby asleep on his chest, and has a hard time giving her back to Jackson at the end of the day.

As she weighs when and how to tell Owen, Amelia ends up spilling the beans to April (Sarah Drew) about her previous pregnancy. It becomes clear that she may not be ready for the emotional implications of having another child.

16 times the doctors at Grey Sloan should have been fired
But in the end, it all wasn't meant to be after all. Amelia decides to give Owen a pregnancy test as a present of sorts, so that they can take it and see the results together. And it comes back negative. (Both Scorsone and Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes have repeatedly said that Scorsone's real-life pregnancy would not be written into this season of the show, so fans who took those announcements at face-value probably saw this twist coming.)

Both Owen and Amelia are clearly disappointed -- but is Amelia also a little relieved as well? It sure seems that way in that final shot of them together on the couch. So, what does this mean for her and Owen's future?

Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC.
