Grey's Anatomy Is Finally Introducing Us to Alex's Mom!

But it probably won't be a happy affair

It looks like we're finally going to meet Alex's (Justin Chambers) mother on Grey's Anatomy.

Per Deadline, the Shondaland drama is enlisting the Bionic Woman herself, Lindsay Wagner, to play Helen Karev for an episode slated to air on Thursday, May 3. While the character previously appeared in a flashback earlier this season -- with Emily Rutherfurd taking on the part of a younger Helen Karev -- this is the first time we're actually going to meet her in the present day, and it probably won't be a happy affair.

Grey's Anatomy Is Coming Back for Season 15

After all, Alex lived through a pretty rough childhood with his father addicted to drugs and his mom suffering from mental illness. The experience forced him to step up as the caretaker of his younger siblings, so it's pretty understandable why he hasn't been the most forthcoming about his relationship with Helen over the course of 14 seasons.

The episode, which will be directed by Jesse Williams, will see Alex and Jo (Camilla Luddington) headed to Iowa to search for his mother since he hasn't heard from her in a while. The question is, what will happen when he eventually finds her?

Grey's Anatomy airs Thursday at 8/7c on ABC.
