How pumped is the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences about its Wednesday night Grammy nomination concert? So pumped that the powers that be have inserted not one, but two exclamation points into the title: The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown to Music's Biggest Night.
Try to look past it. We did.
The inelegantly dubbed event (9 pm/ET, CBS) will be the one-stop shop for the 51st Annual Grammy Awards nominees. The concert will mark the first time nominations (in the top categories) have been announced in prime time.
Concert, you say. Who's performing? Grammy winners new and old, that's who. Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Foo Fighters, B.B. King and John Mayer will all take to the NOKIA Theatre stage in L.A. Grammy fave Mayer, a five-time winner, will keep the music going with a post-nomination concert that won't be televised.
Hosting the shindig — which will also serve as a fundraiser for the new Grammy Museum — are LL Cool J and country darling Taylor Swift, who will perform as well and may even hear name read off more than once.
Speaking of nods, who do you think the wannabe hip (but not really) Grammys will single out this year? Will Alicia Keys get the chance add to her collection of 11 statuettes? Can fellow U.K.-ers Leona Lewis and Duffy follow in Amy Winehouse's winning footsteps? Will Coldplay get as much love from voters as they did from the people?
One thing's for sure though — Kanye West, whose latest disc, 808s & Heartbreak, was released after the Sept. 30 deadline, can't complain about the lack of love ...or can he?
The 51st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will take place Feb. 8.
