X-Men auteur Bryan Singer, who's currently at work on Superman Returns, has been tapped to direct a biopic on gay icon Harvey Milk. The long-gestating project, based on Randy Shilts' seminal book The Mayor of Castro Street, would chronicle the life and assassination of Milk — the first openly gay man elected to any substantial political office in the U.S.
