In front of a sold-out audience at New York's Madison Square Garden, Barbra Streisand gave the final live performance of her storied musical career last night. The Brooklyn-born icon belted out many of her trademark tunes ("Don't Rain on My Parade," "Cry Me a River," "Evergreen," "The Way We Were," "People") in front of a celebrity-packed crowd that included Lauren Bacall, Rosie O'Donnell, Barbara Walters, Jesse Jackson, Billy Crystal, Brooke Shields, Martha Stewart, Glenn Close, designer Donna Karan, husband James Brolin and son Jason Gould. After the Funny Girl performed "Somewhere," the crowd leapt to their feet for a two-minute standing ovation. Uncomfortable with the attention, Streisand cued her musical director to jump right into the next song. However, he urged her to enjoy the moment, and the teary-eyed diva reluctantly agreed. Babs later took the opportunity to advertise the sale of her Gotham pad. "Do you know anyone who's interested in buying a 15-room apartment on Central Park West?" she asked the crowd, before announcing the name of the realtor handling the deal. Some in the audience were disappointed when the second act opened with a video montage of Streisand's career accompanied by her hit "Putting it Together." "But she didn't sing the song live," notes fan Tim Blake of Princeton, NJ. "But it still was amazing."
