Girl Meets World Star Rowan Blanchard Comes Out as Queer
And pushes for representation on TV
Girl Meets World star Rowan Blanchard came out as queer on Twitter over the weekend.
"In my life - only ever liked boys," the 14-year-old wrote. "However I personally don't wanna label myself as straight, gay or whateva so I am not gonna give myself labels to stick with - just existing."

The Disney Channel starlet clarified in a fan response that she's identifying as queer because she's open to dating any gender in the future.

Blanchard also tweeted that she'd love to see her Girl Meets World character, Riley, or any other character on the show, explore bisexuality so there's more representation of the LGBTQ community on television.

The announcement follows Blanchard's essay for Rookie, in which she describes how she decided to stop feeling sorry for existing.
"My codependent relationship with self-blame and self-deprecation as a means of self-defense has held me tightly since I can remember. It has felt safer and less terrifying to silence myself to a degree than to actually engage with people, and make them take responsibility for their own actions," she wrote.
Though Blanchard is still in her early teens, she's already being recognized as a respective social justice advocate. She was also commended for her Instagram essay on "white feminism", which she posted in August.
