Gina Torres Joins ABC The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez at ABC

Gina Torres has accepted the lead titular role in ABC's The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez. However, Deadline reports that the pilot won't affect Torres' starring role on USA's Suits in its upcoming sixth season.

The ABC drama will center on Eva Sofia Valdez, "an immigrant who rose from rags to riches and is a celebrated Miami entrepreneur and a champion for immigrant rights." The network describes the show as a sexy Cuban MacBeth with a supernatural twist. This marks the Firefly and Hannibal alum's first series leading role.

While the pilot will allow Torres to appear in Season 6 of Suits, it's unclear now how Torres' slot could be impacted long term if Eva Sofia Valdez goes to series, although her six year contract is coming to a close. Season 5 ended on Wednesday with the Pearson Specter Litt law firm being decimated by Mike's (Patrick J. Adams) going to prison for fraud. As the core group regroups from the destruction, Torres' Jessica Pearson could be phased out of the action.
