The potential spin-off, which would be the show's second after the failed Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, will be filmed as a backdoor pilot as part of the 18th episode in February. Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer will write the episode. "It's exciting. I've heard some great things about it and what they have in mind and the people they have in mind," A.J. Cook told TVGuide.com earlier this week.
The role is the first TV gig Sinise has booked since CSI: NY ended its nine-season run in 2013.
Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on CBS.
