The backlash over Sansa's wedding night continues
Many Game of Thrones fans are up in arms over Sunday's episode, which featured Sansa (Sophie Turner) being raped by her new husband Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) on their wedding night. And some - including U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill - are saying they'll no longer watch the show.
McCaskill (D-Mo.) tweeted on Tuesday that she was swearing off the HBO series, calling the rape scene "disgusting and unacceptable" and a scene in the Water Garden with the Sand Snakes "stupid."

Sansa's rape is not depicted in George R.R. Martin's books. Late Sunday night, Martin wrote a blog post in response to angry viewer responses (which he described as "not unanticipated"), and reminding fans that the show is intended to stand on its own. "David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] and Bryan [Cogman] and HBO are trying to make the best television series that they can," he wrote. "And over here I am trying to write the best novels that I can. And yes, more and more, they differ."
