You're in for a long wait for new episodes of Game of Thrones.

TV Guide has learned that the fantasy series officially won't return until 2019. The eighth and final season will consist of six episodes and feature a writing team made up of co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss alongside Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill.

The long delay is believed to be due to the extensive CGI effects needed for those spectacular final battles. As the series winds down, fans have plenty to look forward to, including the final showdown with the White Walkers, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) finding out how they're related and, of course, seeing who will claim the Iron Throne.
