Even Sophie Turner Was Bummed Arya Didn't Kill Cersei in the Game of Thrones Finale

Despite Game of Thronesdelivering an action-packed and visually stunning final season, one of the main complaints about Season 8 was that there was simply too much plot to power through in too little time. As a result, several storylines didn't pan out the way fans had expected them to, and as it turns out, even Sophie Turner was kind of bummed to miss out on one storyline in particular.

In an interview with The Wrap, Turner noted that she too had hoped Arya (Maisie Williams) would be the one to kill Cersei (Lena Headey) when all was said and done, finally striking that very important name off her kill list.

"I thought Arya would kill Cersei," Turner said. "And I would like to have seen Sansa and Cersei reunited, or Arya and Cersei. But there were so many ways the story could have turned out. I felt very passionately about the ending for Sansa, and I was very happy with the ending that turned out for her."

Any Sansa fan will agree that watching her be crowned Queen in the North was definitely their desired ending for that character, but it did feel a little bit neglectful that she never got a final showdown with Cersei. Given that the bulk of the first four seasons saw Sansa at the mercy of Cersei's powerful web of lies, it felt like a thread left dangling that Sansa never got to confront the woman who tormented her for so long before Cersei kicked the bucket.

Sadly, when you're powering through so many major plot points in the span of just six episodes, concessions have to be made. That's probably why we didn't get to enjoy Arya taking her revenge or Cersei and Sansa reuniting in what would surely have been a tense stand-off.

However, Turner made sure to reiterate that she stood by the final season and all the hard work that went into it, despite some fans' sour attitude about the way things shook out.

"The fans are incredible and so loyal, and we love them because of the fact that they're so, so passionate. I cannot fault them there," Turner said. "But when people were saying that there was no effort, that the writers were terrible ... The most effort was put into this final season. We were shooting for an incredibly long time, nearly 11 months. We did the most night shoots anyone has done ever, I think. I felt a little defensive, and I think I'm entitled to feel like that."
