New Game of Thrones Character Posters Remind Us Who's Left on the Board

HBO and Twitter teamed up this morning to drop a bunch of new posters forGame of Thrones' eighth and final season, featuring 20 of the show's characters -- the ones who are still living -- taking a seat upon the Iron Throne.

The odds of these characters actually ascending that throne in Season 8 are better for some than others, of course, but the new collection reminds us that we don't really know who will take command of the Seven Kingdoms, and we've certainly been wrong about the show's developments before. Still, seeing characters like Grey Worm and Jorah Mormont perched on the much-fussed sword-chair seems a bit ... off, doesn't it?

Game of Thrones: Everything We Know About Season 8 So Far

Of all the new images, the one that stands out most is The Night King. Showing the White Walkers' fearless leader laying claim to Westeros' most cherished object is eerie enough -- if anyone could make a mockery of all the blood that has been spilled over it, it's him -- but then we get a rare quote from the otherwise silent ice zombie in the caption for the image: "Fear is for the winter." Indeed.
