FX Renews Wilfred for Season 3

Here's some howling good news: Wilfredhas been renewed for a third season, FX announced Wednesday.

The comedy, which stars Elijah Wood as a man who envisions his neighbor's dog Wilfred as a real man (Jason Gann) in a dog suit, has been picked up for a 13-episode third season, which is slated to debut in June 2013.

"It was only a matter of time before we picked up the show, we just had to work some things out," Nick Grad, executive vice president of original programming at FX, said. Network chief John Landgraf had expressed a similar sentiment during this summer's Television Critics Association fall previews.

Additionally, David Zuckerman, who adapted Wilfred for American television and acted as showrunner through the first two seasons, will be stepping down. In his stead, writers Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne have been elevated to executive producers and showrunners. Zuckerman will remain as an executive producer on the series.

"David Zuckerman has done an amazing job adapting and reconceiving Wilfred for FX," Grad continued. "It was his decision to step down from the showrunner's post, but we're very happy he is going to stay involved with the show. Both we and David have great faith in the ability of Reed and Eli to seamlessly step up and take over the reins. I have no doubt they'll do a great job."

Wilfred, which averaged 2.63 million viewers in its second season, will resume production on a third season in the spring.
