FX is moving forward with the potential Sons of Anarchy spin-off. The network has ordered a pilot for Mayans MC, which will focus on the gang's charter on the California-Mexican border.

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter wrote the pilot script with Elgin James, the director of Little Birds and A Million Little Pieces. Sutter will also direct the pilot and executive-produce, with James signed on to co-executive-produce.

Mayans MC will tell the story of EZ Reyes, a Mayan MC prospect who struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves.

The project takes place after the events of Sons of Anarchy, and Sutter hasn't ruled out the prospect of characters from the original drama making appearances in Mayans MC. The spin-off also reportedly won't have an impact on the much-rumored Sons prequel Sutter has previously mentioned pursuing.

Mayans MC comes after Sutter pulled the plug on his first post-Sons of Anarchy drama, The Bastard Executioner, due to its low ratings.
