French Survivor Season Canceled After Contestant Dies During Filming

The upcoming season of the French version of Survivor has been canceled after a contestant died on the first day of filming in Cambodia, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The upcoming season of the French version of Survivor has been canceled after a contestant died on the first day of filming in Cambodia, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gerald Babin, 25, suffered cardiac arrest Friday after a tug-of-war challenge. Babin complained of cramping during the challenge and was treated by a staff doctor on the set. He was eventually transported via helicopter to a nearby hospital and suffered "a series of cardiac arrests" en route, THR reports.

"It is not really a question" about whether to cancel the season," Alexander Petit, aspokesperson for channel TF1 told THR. "Everyone is being flown back to France."

The production company stressed that all contestants cleared a medical exam prior to filming.

There's no word on when or if the series will resume.
