Controversy has swirled around the project, which will star Diane Lane as the former Secretary of State, ever since the Republican National Committee first announced their intention to block upcoming Presidential debates for the 2016 election from airing on NBC if it moved forward with the Clinton miniseries. However, THR reports that Fox TV Studios did not back out over the potential fallout, but over deal points.

NBC first announced the four-part miniseries in July, with plans to premiere it sometime next year. Days later, CNN revealed it was producing a feature-length documentary about Clinton that would premiere theatrically in 2014 before airing on the network. There is also a feature film, titled Rodham, in the works that is said to focus on Clinton's struggle with her own political ambitions and her feelings for a man — Bill Clinton — with great political aspirations of his own.
