Pregnant Food Network Star Alum Cristie Schoen Codd and Husband Murdered

A man has been charged in the murders of Cristie Schoen Codd, 38, best known for her appearance on Season 8 of Food Network Star, and her husband, Joseph J.T. Codd, 45.

The couple was reported missing by family members on Sunday. When deputies arrived at their home in Leicester, N.C., they found the couple's cars and their two dogs, but the Codds were nowhere to be found. At the time of her death, Schoen Codd was five months pregnant with their first child. According to police warrants, authorities believe the couple died Thursday, March 12.

After an extensive search around the couple's home, Buncombe County deputies confirmed that the Codds' neighbor, Robert Jason Owens, 36, had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of murder of an unborn child, breaking and entering, and larceny.

Owens is no stranger to local law enforcement. He was also a suspect in the 2000 disappearance of Asheville teenager Zeb Quinn. That case remains unsolved.

Deputies have not released information about a motive in the case.
