The Followingis turning over a new chapter for Season 3, and Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) is nowhere to be seen - at least for now.

With Joe in a jail cell after being arrested at the end of Season 2, the Fox thriller will introduce a new group of villains for Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) to track in its upcoming season, which kicks off March 2. But will Ryan lose some of his motivation without Joe in the picture?

Winter TV Preview: Get hot scoop on returning shows

"It's a man at a different point," Bacon told TVGuide.com recently about Ryan's arc this season. "He's really trying his best to make Joe a thing of the past, and Claire as well."

As part of that, the season opens with Ryan immersed in a new relationship with a woman named Gwen (new cast member Zuleikha Robinson).

Less lucky in love is Mike, whose romantic leanings towards Max (Jessica Stroup) have stalled for now.

"A major drive for Mike this season is sort of the revenge aspect that started in Season 2. Most of the Gray family is dead, but there is still one elusive twin floating around," Ashmore tells TVGuide.com. "His drive for revenge has sort of driven a wedge between Max and Mike, but the flame still burns."
