Fear the Walking Dead Adds 12 Monkeys' Aaron Stanford

Fear the Walking Dead underwent a major change in its fourth season when it essentially blew its cast up. Actors like Garret Dillahunt and Jenna Elfman were added, while mainstays from the show's original concept were shockingly -- even by franchise standards -- killed off. Adios Kim Dickens. G'bye Frank Dillane.

In Season 4B, the changes will continue as Fear the Walking Dead is adding a handful of actors, including 12 Monkeys' Aaron Stanford. This is what we in the business call "good casting." Stanford is a genre star, having also starred in Nikita and X-Men: The Last Stand, and in addition to being a great actor, he just looks like a guy who would be wandering the desert after a zombie apocalypse, right?

Also joining the cast will be Stephen Henderson (Lady Bird), Tonya Pinkins (Gotham), Mo Collins (MadTV) and Daryl "Chill" Mitchell (Galaxy Quest). Collins and Mitchell are interesting choices as they're primarily known for their comedy chops. Collins has a background in sketch comedy and was a scene stealer in Lady Dynamite, while Mitchell played the one and only Tommy in the best sci-fi comedy of all time, Galaxy Quest.

But hey, Elfman -- best known for network sitcoms -- joined Season 4 and was good, so maybe Collins and Mitchell can show another side of their talent, too. There are no details on their characters, so your guess is as good as ours.

Season 4B will continue the survivors' stories after a creative reboot in the first half that saw two timelines, a time jump, a crossover as The Walking Dead's Morgan (Lennie James) came onboard, new characters, a new Western-themed tone and the loss of two major characters, Madison and Nick.

Fear the Walking Dead returns Sunday, Aug. 12 on AMC.
