Ted Danson, Patrick Wilson, Jean Smart Join Fargo

Fargo has booked some big names for its sophomore season.

Ted Danson, Jean Smart and Patrick Wilson have all signed on as series regulars for Season 2 of the FX drama, the network announced Thursday. In addition, Nick Offerman, Brad Garrett, Kieran Culkin and Jeffrey Donovan are among a number of actors who have booked as recurring guest stars.

Wilson will star as Lou Solverson, a Minnesota State Patrolman who returned four years ago from Vietnam, where he served in the Navy, and now lives with his wife and 4-year-old son (both yet to be cast). Danson will play Lou's father-in-law, Hank Larsson, a World War II vet and the sheriff of Rock County, Minn.

Smart has been cast as Floyd Gerhardt, the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family who finds herself in charge now that her husband of 40 years is at death's door.

The second installment of Fargo is set in 1979 and follows Det. Solverson (Wilson) as he investigates a case involving a Mob syndicate and a local crime gang.

Offerman will play Karl Weathers, a Korean War vet and the town lawyer in Luverne, Minn. who's also a "flowery drunk." Brad Garrett will play Joe Bulo, who's spearheading the northern expansion of a Kansas City crime syndicate and is "bringing a Walmart mentality to small-town America." Bulo's number two is Mike Milligan (Bokeem Woodbine), who's part enforcer and part detective.

Culkin, Donovan and Angus Sampson will all play sons in the Gerhardt clan. The eldest is Dodd (Donovan), an "impatient hothead" who's waiting for both of his parents to die so that he can take over the business. Rye (Culkin) is the youngest and views himself as a big shot. Bear (Sampson), the middle son, is intimidating but is also the most decent of the bunch.

Season 2 of Fargo is set to premiere next fall on FX.
